The rivers of Southeastern Minnesota are located in a rugged bluff land area that is quite different from the rest of Minnesota's well known northern lake areas and western plains areas.
This area is often called the Driftless area because it was surrounded but not covered by the glaciers. As the glaciers melted the rivers carved through the limestone carrying tremendous amount of melt water to the Mississippi River.
