PLANNING A PADDLING OUTING

o       Use route maps and descriptions found in "Canoeing The Driftless" guide to:

o       Choose a route appropriate for your paddling skills

o       Use route synopsis and route descriptions found in guide

o       Determine put-in and take-out accesses for the route

o       Study river maps and road maps to find the best way to get to the selected route.

o       Figure out the best shuttle route for car(s) & canoes/kayaks

o    If renting canoes/kayaks, contact the outfitter to make arrangements

o    Appropriate clothing – plan on getting wet – put extra clothes in dry bag

o    First aid kit

o    Misc: water bottles, insect repellent, food/beverages, camera, trash bag (leave no trace)

o       Make sure you have appropriate paddling gear for your group:

o       Enough canoes/kayaks, paddles (+ extras)

o       Life jackets (PFD’s)

o       Rope for painters (bow & stern lines)
